Questions/Answers
Questions and answers

Do they take reservations for large groups?

You have to be present and out your name on the list. 1st come, 1st served.

Do they have anything for vegans?

They do not really cater to vegans or vegetarians and I agree with previous comments about sides, they do have several veggie sides but I believe they are seasoned "southern style" meaning animal by products like fat, etc.

Are they at 50% capacity for vivid?

Yes

Do they serve boiled shrimp

We've always ordered fried. Don't even look at menu.

Are there any times of year that the restaurant is closed?

Closed Sunday and Monday weekly, as well as Christmas eve and Christmas day.

Does Osteen's serve drinks? Beer? Wine? Etc?

Best seafood restaurant around, there are some places around the area that serv alcohol

Are you open for lunch since ban was lifted?

Yes they are.

Are you a new ownership of the restaurant?

I was there for Valentine's and it is still the same wonderful older woman that has been there forever now :)

What are the sides to pick from?

Every side they serve is fantastic! Google their menu..arrive EARLY bc they are busy! Great place to eat shrimp and fresh catch of the day...you'll love this!!! **cash ONLY **....well worth it...?‍♀️????

Further answer to previous question as to whether they would be open December 20th it appears that the only days they are closed or Christmas Eve and Christmas Day

I think that is right.

Great shrimp. Fabulous mustard Potato Salad just like my mom used to make. RUDE staff. They think they're "all that" and it shows in the lack of kindness to their customers. They need some "new blood" in there, that hasn't been doing their job so long that they're rude about it.

I read about this place on Google. I loved this place. A really good seafood eatery. The deep fried oysters were done to perfection. No heavy breading, they were lightly fried to a golden brown. Really good side dishes..good selection btw. The place is kinda small so we waited for about half an hour on a Friday night. My family ordered the deep fried shrimp. Shrimp came out done to perfection also. Large portions of large shrimp. They also offer a kinda "drive/walk up" window too. I would recommend calling a head for seating. I highly recommend this great seafood dinning experience to anyone that loves seafood. I'm for sure going back ASAP. 💖💖

O’Steens is the place to go for fresh seafood, especially their fried shrimp! If you like some flavor and spice, they have an excellent homemade hot sauce. Just as good as the food is the service, which was quick and thorough. The minute we walked up, we were expecting to sit outside (Florida has just been opening back up after being locked down), though we were happily invited inside and we were brought a booster seat for our child. My family made the stop in St. Augustine to break up a long roadtrip and we are glad to have found this establishment. We hope to be back soon! Thank you O’Steen’s for friendly service and great food!

My girlfriend and I went here on a recommendation from a local - this place has THE BEST deep fried shrimp we have ever had! O'Steen's is an awesome local seafood restaurant in St. Augustine, which never and I mean never disappoints! Our server THIS time was Jen. She was one of the BEST servers I have ever had-truly! Also, I love the fried butterfly shrimp dipped in the pink sauce, mixed with just a bit of hot sauce, but not too hot though. They also serve the BEST fried okra and fluffy hush puppies. The wait was not bad either, 5-5:30PM on a Thursday. Although, if you go on the weekend, expect a little bit of a wait because THEY ARE THAT GOOD!

Very good fried shrimp and country sides. The service was fast, and our server was very helpful with her suggestions since it was our first time there. It's a bit of a wait, but we enjoyed hanging out at the antique store next door which has an intercom inside where they can page you when you're table is ready. Make sure to park in the correct spaces or risk being towed.

Diner frequented by locals as well as tourists, very loyal patronage. We were visiting St Augustine, and followed a recommendation from a local resident. We were repeatedly told it was "worth the wait."... Friday night (Dec 27) we waited 2.5 hours to be seated at the counter, which was surprisingly comfortable seating. Hands down, best fried shrimp I've ever had. Batter is light and shrimp is fresh. We also had the blackened fish dinner, which had a nice kick to it - well seasoned, a lot of flavor. AMAZING Coconut Cream Pie - very rich, flaky crust. The pie is worth returning for. Cash only.

Not impressed with O’Steen’s I had the shrimp and crab Casserole it was one of the specials of the day the shrimp tasted old to me and it was not what I expected for a casserole. The food was barely warm including the mashed potatoes and gravy I was going to send it back but ate it anyway. For a restaurant so highly touted I was very disappointed with a below average meal.

Tried this place on last Tuesday for the first time. We came around 2pm Tuesday and still had to wait for 45 minutes outside. We ordered drink and food at the same time.to save time (kids were too hungry and whining). Food came up within 10 minutes. Shrimp is not that big like in many reviews have said. They were slightly bigger then medium size I believe. The best was not the shrimp (my wife cooks better fried shrimp 😀). It was the spicy tomato clamp chowder soup. I don't think it's Manhattan clamp chowder. It's probably homemade clamp chowder. The homemade hot sauce in green bottles was very good. If you like the sweet taste in everything, then you need to try this homemade hot sauce. I love the fresh pickled cucumber. They probably started picking the cucumber the night before or early in the morning. It's a small and crowded restaurant. However, it was clean, well organized, and quiet (no music, no staff yelling, and most customers were retired people when we were there).

Small place with an authentic fish house ambiance. Good food, great service and huge portions. We both had the broiled flounder. As I said a huge piece with two sides. Looking across to another table and someone had a plate full of shrimp mounded about 5 inches high. Also a cup of minorcan chowder. All real good, and fast too. They turn them over fast and with quality. Don't miss this one in St. Augustine if you are into fish houses. If you don't know what I mean by that go to a chain restaurant.

Beautifully done!Starting with delicious Pulpo, thinly sliced octopus carpaccio with hints of lime and drizzled with an olive aioli. Mussel ceviche shooters, dreams are made of this. After sharing Papas and lovly grilled and smoked beef heart, I went for the Zeta Capchi. A beautiful creamy Oyster Mushroom Stew with hints of Andean mint and peppers. Our table filled with Lomo, Costillo Seco and Aji. We all ate from each others dishes sharing and experiencing flavors some have never had. My sons beautiful girlfriend is Peruvian and she shared stories with every dish telling us of memories that the flavors and smells were bringing back to her. Truly one of the best culinary experiences in our wonderful little city. You don't go to Llama to eat, you go to experience and dine. Great fried shrimp and sauce. But spending $25 on a seafood platter that fits in just one box with 2 sides is unbelievable. ( During Covid-19, take out only) The platter is not worth it. I been at many other seafood restaurants and their seafood platter fits in atleast 2 boxes. The seafood platter was a waste of money.

Fried is the word here. My wife and I split the sampler platter and it was delicious and we both had plenty to eat. We were able to substitute in catfish for the fish portion of the platter which was a great choice. Batter is very light and these guys don't know how to overcook anything. Get ready for a wait but it is worth it. To avoid the wait you can order to go over the phone or in person at the window. Super nice staff. The tea is great also.

I would take a star off for the wait but they have an arrangement with a place down the street where you can wait comfortably for your table. This place is popular, I was in town for a couple of weeks and there are always people waiting in line to get in. I finally bit the bullet a couple of days before I left town, as mentioned above the wait was comfortable and when we got into the restaurant, we weren't disappointed. Generous portions of really good sea food. Remember to bring cash and enjoy a good meal.

Absolutely the best fried shrimp ever! This is our "go to" place in the St. Augustine area for a delicious and economical meal. It's been our family tradition for 40+ years. We ordered a shrimp dinner (choices are available for smaller to larger appetites based on the number of shrimp) which include two sides and hush puppies. Service is always attentive, fast and cheerful. Note: credit or debit cards are not accepted.

I was introduced to O'Steen's by a local resident who has eaten here for years. In his opinion, they serve the best seafood in the St. Augustine area. So we went for lunch, and we were not disappointed. There is parking at the side and rear including wheelchair parking. I presume that because of the small size of the restaurant, one registers at a side window. If there is room, you are invited in or asked to sit and wait on a comfortable sheltered bench. If you are ordering carry out, they take your order and call you when it's ready. The food is freshly prepared to order and without a doubt some of the best fried fish, scallops and shrimps in the area. Delicious corn fritters, pickled cucumbers and really good crab cakes. Friendly staff, delicious food. Cash only. Worth a visit. Large portions, so come hungry.

Cannot get over how delicious this restaurant was! It's a cash only restaurant but well worth withdrawing some cash--I did not see an ATM there however, so stop before you arrive. I had the seafood platter and it did not disappoint (pictured). There was a wait (30-45 minutes) but we were taken care of in a timely fashion after seated. Our waitress was very kind and thoughtful. A St Augustine favorite! O'steens has been around for quite some time. There's a good reason for that! This is an iconic restaurant that has epic food! The seafood platter has a good sampling of just about everything. If you have a large appetite, they offer larger portions of their famous shrimp. Parking is limited and be sure to plan ahead as they don't take reservations. Just show up with everyone in your group and request a table. Usual wait time is around 15 minutes for groups of 5 or less and around 30 minutes for a larger groups. Wait times can also vary depending on the time of the year. Also, this establishment is cash only! Pricing is very affordable and food portion sizes are perfect.

Have been going here since the late 1970's. Simply the best shrimp, crab, meatloaf, vegetables, breads and staff you will ever find. In other words, just about the best place around for simple, real food. I remember eating here during a hurricane, I remember Walter Cronkite would send someone to get a to go order when he would moor in the Matanzas. I remember my whole family eating here many, many times. Most are gone but the memories are still there. Thank you Osteen's and see you on the other side!

We both got the 12 shrimp meal. They did not describe them as "jumbo" shrimp so we were surprised by how massive the portions were. The sauce they serve it with was great and their datil pepper sauce is fantastic. My girlfriend doesn't like spicy things, but dumped the sauce all over her shrimp. The service was a 6/5. Everyone was so nice. They really went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. It's obvious that the locals love this place, the servers seemed to know half the customers by name. This is a must-go place in my opinion. Be aware that they are cash only though.

Great fried shrimp. Prepare for a wait if you go during typical lunch or supper hours. If you don't have a schedule to stick too, have a late lunch, early supper around 4. Less crowded.
